A recent discovery by the gallery, this painting represents an important addition to the catalogue of the "Florentine" Cortonesque painter of Flemish origin.
It is a significant cabinet or drawing room picture, certainly to be associated with a refined and high-ranking patron belonging to the entourage of the Grand Prince of Tuscany, Ferdinando Maria de' Medici, protector and great admirer of our painter. The authorship of the work is confirmed by professor Francesca Baldassari, who devoted an extensive study to its rediscovery, published by the gallery (2024). According to the scholar, the painting is one of the most convincing examples of Livio Mehus's mature activity … datable to the mid-1670s.
